  • The Next Generation Nissan Juke offers new levels of technology and connectivity to customers
  • More than 5,000 hours of training for Sunderland staff to manufacture the new vehicle
This year has been one to remember for the Nissan Sunderland manufacturing plant – not only did the ten millionth car roll out of there earlier this year, but now it is the epicenter of the Next Generation Nissan Juke, the second generation of Nissan’s unique compact crossover.

Designed specifically for the European market, the Next Generation Nissan Juke is only being produced in Sunderland, having been designed, engineered and manufactured solely in the UK and thanks to a £100 million investment in the production plant.

This investment in the production plant was needed due to the multiple options customers are given with the Next Generation Nissan Juke; with advancements in technology, interior and exterior personalisation options (including 27 new die sets and 15 different two-tone body colour combinations) there had to be extensive modifications to the plant in order to accommodate this, as well as the 5,000+ hours of staff training which had to be delivered to the plants expert team.

Nissan Europe Chairman, Gianluca de Ficchy, went over to the Sunderland plant to oversee the last stages of preparation for the Juke launch, saying;

The new Juke represents a further £100m investment in our Sunderland plant and is designed, engineered and manufactured in the UK for European customers.

Thirty-five years ago Nissan decided to create a plant in the UK to serve our European markets. Ten million vehicles later, Sunderland is the biggest UK car plant in history and the all-new Juke is the most connected Nissan car. With more than 35,000 jobs supported by Nissan in the UK, I would like to thank our experienced and skilled teams in Paddington, Cranfield and Sunderland, and our wider supply base, for their efforts in bringing this all-new model to life.”

More connected than ever indeed, the Next Generation Nissan Juke comes packed with In-car NissanConnect1 services, a responsive 8-inch touchscreen monitor2, in-car WiFi, voice recognition3 and for the first time ever, Nissan ProPILOT technology 4.

This advanced driver-assistance technology is designed for highway use in single-lane traffic and provides electronically assisted steering, acceleration and braking to help you stay confident on the road.

The Juke has been optimised under the bonnet too: with an efficient 1.0 litre 3-cylinder DIG-T turbocharged petrol engine giving drivers 117 PS, it provides improved performance and fuel economy for a smoother and smarter drive.

We are thrilled to see the Juke in production” says Steve Marsh, Nissan Vice President for Manufacturing in the UK.

“Our million Juke fans across Europe will be able to see it on the roads very soon. Juke is a big part of our plant’s heritage, so it is a proud moment to see the new model rolling off the line. Our design and engineering teams have done a fantastic job and our skilled manufacturing team will now deliver the car to the high quality that our customers have come to expect.”

Smarter, smoother and more stylish than ever, the Next Generation Nissan Juke is due to hit showrooms next month (November 2019).
