Dare to Defy is a three-part documentary series available on Prime Video.
It follows Richard Whitehead MBE and Adele Roberts as they embark on a powerful journey to transform sport, breaking down barriers for the disabled, LGBTQ+ and other underrepresented communities by creating the most inclusive running event ever.
Drawing from their own personal experiences and meeting inspiring individuals who dare to defy their own sporting expectations, the series is an emotional journey that reconsiders what it truly means to belong in sport.

Supporting Disability
Nissan is proud to be working with the Richard Whitehead Foundation and Sported UK as part of the Possibilities Project, breaking down barriers for people with disabilities to achieve their ambitions through sport.
We are creating opportunities by providing sports prosthetics, specialist equipment and ongoing support to people with leg limb loss, amputation or limb difference, which can make a lasting difference to how someone moves and trains. Now in its fifth year, we’re proud to introduce the latest beneficiaries of our programme, supported by the Nissan Possibilities Project, Össur and Proactive Prosthetics, and we're excited to see where their journeys take them next.
To facilitate further inclusion, Nissan and the Richard Whitehead Foundation also created the Supported Project, an initiative that matches disabled people with trained volunteer support so they can participate in sporting activities. This started with supported running and is now expanding out to provide trained support across other sports such as swimming.

WEIGHTS & CAKES INITIATIVE
As part of the Possibilities Project, Nissan and Sported UK partnered with Weights and Cakes, an inclusive Sunderland gym giving young people a welcoming, pressure‑free space to get active. Volunteers from the Nissan Sunderland plant helped brighten the facility by creating a sensory room, giving members a calm space to stay focused. The partnership also worked to improve the accessibility of sports for disabled people through a leadership course designed to give them the confidence to take on roles of responsibility.
Watch the video to hear Zoe, head coach and founder of Weights & Cakes CIC, share her vision for the initiative.
RICHARD WHITEHEAD'S MARATHON ARIYA
As a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Ambassador for Nissan and a key figure in Nissan's Possibilites Project, Richard Whitehead MBE has helped push the boundaries of sport. In 2024, Nissan implemented modifications to Richard's Nissan ARIYA, to support his world record breaking marathon challenges. The Nissan team worked alongside partners Össur, and Luzzo Bespoke, creating a boot box to house his running prosthetics, chargers for his walking legs inside the cabin, a special pull out seat in the boot and even a coffee machine!
Hear from the team in the video as they share the journey of bringing this fully customised ARIYA to life.
NISSAN MOTABILITY CAMPAIGN
To support our Nissan Motability campaign, we created a video series to meet the faces behind the ads, learning about their experiences and how the scheme supports their everyday independence. Hear from six indiividuals featured in the campaign who are also part of the Nissan Possibilities Project, supported via The Richard Whitehead Foundation, Sported UK and Dare to Defy series. This campaign highlights the real impact of the Motability Scheme and our ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
